The Baby from Nirvana Nevermind Album is 17 [PICS]

Spencer Elden was the baby that took the famous photo for Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’ album 17 years ago and his parents were paid $200. He recently recreated the photo at the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center in Pasadena, California. This is the same place where the original photo was taken.

Useless: Nevermind is the second studio album by the American rock band Nirvana, released on September 24, 1991.

The Nevermind album cover shows a baby swimming toward a US dollar bill on a fishhook. According to Cobain, he conceived the idea while watching a television program on water births with Grohl. Cobain mentioned it to Geffen's art director Robert Fisher. Fisher found some stock footage of underwater births but they were too graphic for the record company. Also, the stock house that controlled the photo of a swimming baby that they subsequently settled on wanted $7,500 a year for its use, so instead Fisher sent a photographer to a pool for babies to take pictures. Five shots resulted and the band settled on the image of a three-month-old infant named Spencer Elden, the son of the photographer's friend Rick Elden. However, there was some concern because Elden's penis was visible in the image. Geffen prepared an alternate cover without the penis, as they were afraid that it would offend people, but relented when Cobain made it clear that the only compromise he would accept was a sticker covering the penis that would say "If you're offended by this, you must be a closet pedophile."

Differences Between the 90s and 2008: None

During the 1990s, the widespread adoption of personal computers, the Internet, and the increased economic productivity led to the equity market booms around the world, and caused an influx of wealth to the United States, Europe and Asia. One important piece of hardware used during this time period, the pager. Pagers are initially popular but ultimately are replaced by mobile phones toward the end of the decade.

2008, on the other hand, seems to be going alittle differently. By wait, there's still hope. The 90s may be making a comeback. Check it:

How To Eat a 20 Pound Burger

Named the Beer Barrel Belly Bruiser, it was once just a myth in the eating world. That is, until some dude decided he was really hungry and ate it. Before, the biggest burger anyone had finished was the Ye’ Olde 96er, which is six pounds plus toppings and the bun. It can be found at Denny's Beer Barrel Pub.

Anyway, here's how he did it:

How did you eat it? Bare hands? Fork and knife?

Bare hands, bare hands. I cut pieces off of it. I started with taking the top bun off and ate the toppings off the bun, so that I could use it to dip the meat if I felt like it. Then, I started to cut wedges off of the patty and I’d eat them — that included the cheese of course. And after I got done with that, I moved on to the debris of the patty as well as the onions and lettuce and all that stuff on the bottom of the bun. That was sort of like eating a big taco salad. After I scraped all that off the bun, it was on to the bottom of the bun and I was ready to roll.

The next morning, the dude took what is now known as the world's biggest poo.

Marvel Releases More Comic Book Movie Dates!!

I haven't got to see Iron Man yet, so don't blow it for me by leaving comments about how it ends.

"Iron Man 2"
Release date: April 30, 2010
Lowdown: This franchise has always been planned as a trilogy, and you can expect everyone to return and for Terrence Howard (aka War Machine) to get a lot more screen time.

"Thor"
Release date: June 4, 2010
Lowdown: Think "Lord of the Rings" meets "Beowulf." The most recent script rightfully set the Norse god's origins in pagan times (and was a good read to boot). As the comic book version also lives in modern times, it will be interesting to see how director Matthew Vaughn ("Stardust") ties that into the movie. The more important question is whether Marvel will spend the money Vaughn needs to make the magical world of Asgard come to life.

"The First Avenger: Captain America"
Release date: May 6, 2011
Lowdown: This is going to be a tough sell. Cap has been around since the 1940s, but other studios were always hesitant to develop the character because there isn't much appetite for a patriotic supersoldier draped in red, white and blue in the lucrative overseas market. Marvel is going full steam ahead, but even longtime comic fans wonder if this one can really succeed.

"The Avengers"
Release date: July 2011
Lowdown: If you waited for the final scene at the end of the "Iron Man" credits, you heard Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) tease audiences by introducing the Avengers Initiative to Tony Stark. This beloved superhero team has been around since the 1960s, and with Marvel controlling the rights to all the original members (Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk) this may be a dream project come true. But is Marvel getting cocky thinking two "Avenger" movies can be hits in one summer?

"Ant-Man"
Release date: 2011
Lowdown: This is tough sell No. 2. Henry Pym is a scientist who discovers a way to shrink himself to the size of an ant and to communicate with them in order to fight evil. Pym's character got much more interesting over time (not to mention bigger when he became Giant-Man), but this has always been a hokey concept that conjures memories of "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids." Note to Marvel: Just skip Pym's Ant-Man years and move ahead to his cooler, current identity of Yellowjacket.

Introducing the Vii.......Nintendo's Competition

Via Engadget

...The Vii (or Vii 2, for that matter) not really providing all the satisfaction you were craving when you first acquired it? Don't hang your head in shame, dear boy, there's another option for you yet! China Shenzhen Firstsing Company Limited, the same company who provided the totally unnecessary cooling fan for the actual Wii, has produced a 7-in-1 gaming console that -- from here, at least -- looks unbelievably similar to Nintendo's latest machine. Still, this rig provides mind-melting 16-bit graphics, sports games that are "similar to those on the Wii, but more cheaper," a wireless gamepad, a battery-powered designed (uh...) and a sweet gift box.

Giant Squid Going on Public Display?

Giant squid caught in the Ross Sea, Antarctica. New Zealand scientists have begun thawing the world's largest squid to try to unlock some of the secrets of one of the ocean's most mysterious beasts. The 495 kilogram (1,089 pound), 8-meter (26-ft.) long colossal squid was removed from its freezer Monday April 28, 2008, and put into a tank filled with a saline solution, the first step of a plan that will eventually put it on public display.

Adolf Hitler's Paintings Exposed

On 21 December 1907, Hitler's mother died of breast cancer at age 47. Ordered by a court in Linz, Hitler gave his share of the orphans' benefits to his sister Paula. When he was 21, he inherited money from an aunt. He struggled as a painter in Vienna, copying scenes from postcards and selling his paintings to merchants and tourists.

After being rejected a second time by the Academy of Arts, Hitler ran out of money. In 1909, he lived in a homeless shelter. By 1910, he had settled into a house for poor working men.

Who cares...here are some paintings he supposedly did:

The World's Largest Spiderweb

This might be one of the biggest, if not the biggest spiderweb ever found. This huge web was found covering 180 meters of trees and bushes by the employees of park Lake Tawakoni in Texas. It’s not yet clear if this “work of art” has been made by a single or a colony of spiders. The web was initially white, but turned dark when all the mosquitoes got caught in it. Also, nothing was said about the species of spider found at the location. Until further information is provided, here is the huge white web.

E-mail For Dummies

What a waste of paper.

Trees are an important component of the natural landscape because of their prevention of erosion and the provision of a specific weather-sheltered ecosystem in and under their foliage. Trees have also been found to play an important role in producing oxygen and reducing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, as well as moderating ground temperatures. They are also significant elements in landscaping and agriculture, both for their aesthetic appeal and their orchard crops (such as apples). Wood from trees is a common building material.

World's smallest girl proud of her tiny size

At just 1ft 11 in tall, she is dwarfed by her neighbour's baby, but Jyoti Amge is 15 years old.

The teenager, who is the world's smallest girl according to the Indian Book of Records, has a form of dwarfism called achondroplasia. Now fully grown, she weighs just 11 lb.

Jyoti Amge with a neighbour's 13-month old baby and with her school friends

Far from being unhappy about her tiny size, Jyoti says that she enjoys the celebrity status her height has brought her.

"I am proud of being small. I love the attention I get," she told the Sunday Mirror.

"I'm just the same as other people. I eat like you, dream like you. I don't feel any different."

Jyoti attends her local high school, in Nagpur, India, where she studies alongside classmates of her own age, though she sits at a specially made miniature desk.

Her mother, Ranjana, 45, explained that her daughter's condition was not apparent until some time after her birth.

"When Joyti was born she seemed quite normal. We came to know about her disorder when she was five," she said. "Jyoti is small, yet cute, and we love her very much."

Like any other teenager, she loves listening to pop music and watching DVDs and even hopes to become a Bollywood actress.

She has recently recorded an album with her favourite Indian pop star, Mika Singh.

Microsoft gives Yahoo 3 weeks to accept, or else

Microsoft issued another letter to the Yahoo board of directors on Saturday with a deadline of 3 weeks for the company to accept the previous $44.6 billion takeover offer that Microsoft proposed in the beginning of February. Despite some recent talks between the two companies, an agreement has not been made and Microsoft is starting to lean heavy on the search engine firm’s board by threatening to go straight to the shareholders if necessary.

“If we have not concluded an agreement within the next three weeks, we will be compelled to take our case directly to your shareholders, including the initiation of a proxy contest to elect an alternative slate of directors for the Yahoo! board,” the letter read. “The substantial premium reflected in our initial proposal anticipated a friendly transaction with you. If we are forced to take an offer directly to your shareholders, that action will have an undesirable impact on the value of your company from our perspective which will be reflected in the terms of our proposal.”, stated Steve Ballmer’s letter to Yahoo.

Thinkware iNAVI K2's 3D maps are just like being there

Looking out the window while driving is way overrated. The new hotness, in Korea at least, is super-detailed 3D maps that leave nothing of your route to the imagination. Thinkware's iNAVI K2 is just such a device, with purty 3D graphics showing up on its 4.8-inch 800 x 480 screen. There's 8GB of memory, 256MB of RAM, and a fancy "geomagnetic 3-axis sensor" that helps keep mapping on track, but face it, you're going to buy this to see if they mapped your house. It'll be available for 549,000 KRW, about $561 US.

World's Largest Book: 5x7 feet

Source: 2spare

Bhutan: A Visual Odyssey Across the Last Himalayan Kingdom checks in at more than 5 x 7 feet and weighs 133 pounds. Certified by Guinness World Records as the largest published book in the world, it features 112 pages of spectacular images and showcases a variety of digital, photographic and printing techniques. Each copy is printed only on demand, and uses a roll of paper longer than a football field, more than a gallon of ink and 24 hours' printing time.

The book's creator, Michael Hawley of MIT, squeezed the maximum image quality out of his professional-grade cameras and on-demand-printing equipment, challenged a bindery to make the big book and established that digital images are every bit as good if not better than traditional film photographs. It is currently for sale on Amazon at $30,000.
